My name's Alex and it took me most of my life for me to realise we are all far more capable of achieving our goals than we give ourselves credit for. We blame circumstances, upbringing, education and relationships for not getting to where we want to be. We look at others and say they were lucky, they were in the right place at the right time or it was easy for them because....( fill in the blank)
But I believe we are all born with more ability, more creativity and more passion than we have been shown how to access. We are all here to thrive and bloom, not merely exist. We are here to shine. The best part is this: it is never too late to change. Never too late to replace old thought patterns and beliefs. More often than not, we are taught our limitations by our families, who were taught by their families too.
My mentor the late Bob Proctor told a story about vegetable shopping. It was about a beet.. he had been brought up to only eat the root, she had been taught that you only at the tops Both believed that the half they didn't eat was soley fit for the animals. But these thoughts were transferred along the family line. How many beliefs have been passed on to you? Remember in the past they thought it was wrong to bath often or that if we traveled over 20 mph something bad would happen to us and the human body wouldn't cope! its sounds crazy now, but it was a long held "fact".
We take on many limiting beliefs , particularly in our childhood, that become embedded in our sub-concious. They become part of our operating system. In most cases we either forget what was said or they become a family saying. Remember "money doesn't grow on trees" or "there's always more month left at the end of the money". Both these phrases then have a direct impact on us and the following generations Repeated as a mantra they become how we think and what we believe to be true. It then becomes our default operating system.
We can change how we think, that in turn changes how we behave and therefore our actions and outcomes change too.
We can thrive when we are given encouragement, the right tools and the right environment. Confidence , I have learned is an inside job. We all have something we are good at doing and are confident at doing. But when we are asked ,we will generally say we are not confident. Confidence is not to be confused with being an extrovert. You can be quietly confident or even an introvert with extrovert tendancies. A lot of actors fall in to this description. They are shy when they are not in "character"
A lesson from the film "The Wizard of Oz" is when Glinda, the Good Witch, turns to Dorothy and say "You've always had the power my dear , you just had to learn it for yourself" I have this as aposter in a frame as a reminder
In 1997, when one teatime my life did the proverbial 180 I discovered I was stronger and more independent than I had previously thought or believed. In fact I thrived. I then started on what has become known as a "Self Development" journey. By 2020 I had studied with the Proctor Gallagher Institute, having followed its founder Bob Proctor for many years. The interim years I trained as an Holistic Therapist, fitness Instructor and in Nutrition. This gives a Whole Body approach to my coaching. I believe in pushing boundaries.
Those boundaries included indoor climbing. I climbed because I didn't like heights. I learned reflexology because I really didn't like feet. I raced sidecars up to National level, yet I can't sit on a fairground ride. I am now looking at a new adventure for 2023 after going up Ben Nevis (See cover photo) I learned that my fears were all self imposed. That I can do anything I set my mind to. Remember I said we believe what our family tell us. Mine said I wasn't any good at art and I couldn't paint. It turns out that at the age of 57, that actually I can. I now have paintings all around the UK and even in the USA
